Fractured Hopes–A poem
By Bariya Hamid
O Father! O Father!
I would like to see her again.
I hear her sobs every night,
With thy name in murmurous sighs.
She paints me for your image
And unbosoms thy lofty dreams.
“He will return,” she tells me so
And takes me into her arms;
Gives me kisses, sweet and many
And embraces my whole being.
In a thousand sighs,
Singing me lilting lullabies,
to make me sleep. But how can I?
When she awakes with fractured hopes!
O Father! O Father!
My heart is off in frenzied beats;
Tell me does your beat even once?
Or have they dumped you somewhere deep?
Forlorn I am in thy absence,
Oh Father, O Father!
