NTA shocker for Kashmiri students
Asks them to appear in NET exams in far off states
Srinagar: In a bizarre move, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has designated exam centres for NET aspiring candidates outside J&K state, leaving the aspirants perplexed.
The candidates after downloading their admit cards for their upcoming exam on December 22 have been agitated with the move and said it was a deliberate attempt by NTA to make Kashmiri aspirants victim of discrimination.
“It is a deliberate attempt to keep Kashmiri students away from exams as we can’t travel to other states to appear in exams,” said Mubashir, an aspirant from Baramulla.
This year, UGC has set up NTA as a premier and specialist testing organization to conduct entrance examinations for admission, fellowship in higher educational institutions.
However, the candidates are up in arms against the NTA for leaving the aspirants in despair.
“We had given option for exam centres in Baramulla, Srinagar, Jammu and Kathua but NTA has kept our centres in outside J&K like Delhi, Gujrat, Haryana, Rajasthan and Punjab,” Mubashir said.
The candidates were asked to download their admit cards from NTA website on November 19.
“It clearly shows how government is playing with the career of hundreds of students. It is very troublesome for us particularly the girl students to appear in NET exams outside J&K,” said Khalid, a candidate from Budgam.
The students also said they have apprehensions about travelling to other states given the way Kashmiri students are being treated in these states.
“We can’t take risk to travel to these places for our exams,” he said.
The aggrieved students also said they it was not possible for them to afford air tickets worth Rs 10,000 to Rs 15000 to travel to other states and appear in exams.
The aspirants have appealed the Governor of J&K state, advisor Khurshid Ahmad Ganai and chief Secretary J&K to personally intervene into the matter so that exam centres of Kashmiri aspirants are set up within J&K state.
