Kargil legislator writes to Union Minister

Kargil: Legislator from Kargil Asghar Karbalai has expressed shock over the stoppage of construction work on one of the biggest tunnels in the State at Zojila Pass.
In a communiqué to Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari, the Kargil legislator has said that people are disappointed and dejected as there has been no progress in the construction work of Zojila Tunnel due to the financial crisis hitting the executing agency Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Service (IL&FS) Transportation Network.
“The local populace was nurturing a big hope for the kind words of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi who laid foundation stone for a project of national importance but their dreams were shattered when the executing agency stopped the ongoing work with the plea of financial crisis and internal problems with the company. The Zojila tunnel is the long pending demand of Ladakh residents,” the communiqué reads.
“In-fact connecting the third region of Jammu And Kashmir State with the rest of the country for full year is not the problem of people of Ladakh alone but it is a need of entire nation. This tunnel would end the alienation of Ladakh residents in winter by providing road connectivity between Ladakh and Kashmir,” the legislator wrote.
“Don’t disappoint people of Kashmir particularly the ladakh region. Please, start work on the said tunnel,” the letter reads
