Issues circular asking faculty members to take exam process seriously
Srinagar: After facing criticism for severe discrepancies the results, the Kashmir University (KU) authorities have now reprimanded the faculty members of the concerned departments in the varsity as well as colleges for not taking the exam process seriously.
The controller university examination Prof Farooq Ahmad Mir has issued a circular to all departments of the degree colleges and expressed displeasure over non seriousness of the faculty members saying they pass the buck on the non-teaching staff for taking the responsibility of exams.
“Most of the faculty members do not upload marks of the subjects assigned to them for evaluation but handover the award rolls to the non faculty members for uploading the marks,” reads a circular issued by the controller examination KU.
The circular comes at a time when the KU authorities had to cut a sorry figure for declaring flawed results of undergraduate as well as B.Ed courses where thousands of students were enrolled in various private colleges affiliated with the Kashmir University.
“The evaluation of answer scripts is a sacred responsibility of the faculty members and it cannot be at any stage bartered away because it tells upon the credibility of the university examination system and leads to undesired consequences,” the circular reads.
Earlier in the month of September, the KU received severe criticism after it declared flawed results of outgoing college students wherein around 600 students were declared to have not qualified.
The students however, obtained the Xerox copies of their answer scripts wherein it was revealed that the students were declared not qualified due to the negligence of the evaluators or the faculty members.
It was found that the evaluators had either not evaluated the question papers properly or had forgotten to include internal marks of the students obtained in practical exams.
In wake of the flaws and mistakes committed by the evaluators, most of the students could not make it to admissions in post graduation courses offered by the varsity despite qualifying the PG entrance of the varsity on provisional basis.
“It is impressed upon all HoDs and directors of the departments that they should personally ensure that only faculty members authorized to evaluate papers upload marks of and in no case be delegated to non-faculty members,” the circular reads.
The controller examination has stated that the faculty members will be held responsible for any fault or negligence in the system.
“The faculty members shall be personally responsible for any fault, negligence or discrepancy between the marks awarded and uploaded,” the circular reads.
