JeM militant killed, cop injured in Tral encounter

Srinagar: A Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) militant was killed and a policeman injured during a gunfight that broke out between militants and government forces in DarGanie-Gund area of Tral in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district, police said Friday.
“One militant probably Pakistani belonging to Jaish was killed and a Policeman injured in a fierce encounter after a joint team of army’s 42RR, 180 BN CRPF and SOG cordoned off Darganie-Gund after having credible input about presence of some militants in the area,” a police spokesman said.
In the ensuing encounter, one militant was killed and his body was retrieved from the site of encounter, the spokesman added.
He said that incriminating materials including arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter.
“From the incriminating materials recovered, it is learnt that the killed militant is a Pakistani codenamed as Anwar who was affiliated with proscribed outfit JeM. He was involved in attacks on security establishments and other civilian atrocities in the area,” the spokesman added.
Moreover, one policeman also sustained minor injuries and was evacuated to hospital for medical attention. He is stated to be stable. Police has registered a case and initiated investigation in the matter, the spokesman added.
Meanwhile, police once again requested civilians not to venture inside the encounter zone since such an area can prove dangerous due to stray explosive materials.
“People are requested to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosives materials if any,” the spokesman added.
