Temperatures witnesses a steep fall in valley
Srinagar: Cold conditions continued in Kashmir following weekend’s snowfall as day temperature hovered around or below seven degree Celsius in most parts of the Valley on Monday.
Srinagar—the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir—recorded a maximum of 7.1 degrees Celsius, less by over 12 degrees Celsius from the normal for this time of the year, a meteorological department official said.
The night temperature in Srinagar was also below normal by nearly three degrees Celsius, recording a low of 1.8 degrees Celsius, the official said.
Qazigund— the gateway town to the Valley—in south Kashmir registered a maximum of 6.8 degrees Celsius while it had a low of 0.8 degrees Celsius last night, the official said.
He said that the day temperature in Kokernag, also in south Kashmir, was 4.2 degrees Celsius while night temperature settled at a low of 0.1 degrees Celsius.
Kupwara in north Kashmir recorded a maximum of 7.4 degrees Celsius and minimum settled at minus 0.9 degrees Celsius, the official said.
Pahalgam—the south Kashmir health resort which also serves as one of the base camps for the annual Amarnath Yatra—recorded maximum of 2.8 while it had a low of 0.3 degrees Celsius, he said.
The official said that the mercury at the famous ski resort of Gulmarg, in north Kashmir, recorded minus 5.0 degrees Celsius last night while it has the maximum of 0.2 degrees Celsius.
The MeT office has forecast mainly dry weather in the state till November 8, after which, it said there was a possibility of isolated showers. (GNS)
