Electricity to be restored within two days: CE PDD

Shopian: The parts of South Kashmir continued to reel under darkness for the fourth consecutive day on Monday after Valley received the first snowfall of the season on last weekend, giving a tough time to people amid chilly winter conditions.
As per locals power supply in most parts of South Kashmir was snapped on Friday and authorities have failed to restore the supply, despite elapsing of four days.
“The power supply was snapped on Friday afternoon, there is no word from concerned department about restoring the supply,” said Waqar Ahmad, a resident of Shopian district.
Similar reports were received from other parts of South Kashmir, saying that they are reeling under darkness since Friday evening and authorities are yet to restore the power supply in their respective areas.
Power supply continued to remain disrupted in most parts of Southern districts as the damage in South as compared to north and central Kashmir was high, said a PDD official.
“At some places, mostly the towns we have restored the power supply but most of it yet to be done,” he said.
Chief Engineer Power Development Department (PDD), Hashmat Qazi said the four towers had fallen down due to which the power supply in southern district was not restored quickly.
“S&O wing of PDD is trying its level best to make at least temporary arrangement till the towers are erected again,” he said, adding that “we are also looking for possibilities of backups.”
He said it will take at least two more days to restore the power supply in South.
