Srinagar: Senior Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Mansoor Hussain Sohrawardhy on Monday expressed serious concern over the wide scale damage caused to crops and orchards in Kashmir due to unseasonable snowfall, asking the government to reach out to fruit growers hailing from far off areas of the state.
Mansoor stated that south Kashmir in general and Shangus assembly segment in particular has been bearing the brunt of the nature’s fury with orchards damaged and produce destroyed in plethora.
He regretted that so far no government agency has visited the aggrieved fruit growers of Shangus and such a non-serous approach has left the people of the area in lurch as the heavy losses menacingly loom over the horizon in Shangus assembly segment.
“I was there in Shangus constituency when nature fury wrecked havoc in the region, damaging orchards and destroying the produce at large. Ironically, no government official has bothered to visit the area and assess the losses so that same could be mitigated,” Mansoor said in a statement issued here.
PDP leader stated further that among the areas in Shangus assembly segment wherein the fruit growers were worst hit due to snowfall include block Chatergul as a whole, Brakpora, Kadapora, Magraypora, Kaganhall, Tailwani, H- Tooru, Qawarigham, Ranipora, Deethu, Nowgam, Andoo, Pushroo, Kuthair, various areas of Achabal and several others.
Mansoor said that the need of the hour is to assess the damages caused to the crops in the area by the district administration and it is appealed to the state Governor that the fruit growers of Shangus assembly segment who suffered intense damage are mitigated at an earliest.
