Congress claims support to win Mayoral elections in SMC
Srinagar: The Congress on Monday claimed to have garnered support to claim the Mayoral positions in the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC).
J&K Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President G.A. Mir said that the upcoming Elections in the Corporation is a good opportunity for right thinking elected members of Srinagar District to defeat the divisive politics of BJP and RSS combine.
He said that these elections are apparently a direct fight between Congress and BJP-RSS combine while, expressing confidence that Congress led group is all set to take control of the Corporation on 6th of this Month.
Describing the upcoming election in SMC as a direct fight between Congress led secular group and BJP-RSS combine, Mir said that the saffron party is desperate enough to grab power and making inroads in Srinagar City with the support of their alliance partner.
“But the secular group led by Congress will ensure their defeat in the election scheduled on Nov 6th,” Mir said.
He said BJP-RSS combine has always been desperate enough to erode the authority of democratic institutions in the state to serve their vested interests, besides exhibiting their existence.
“But the matter of the fact is that the saffron party while having no base in Srinagar City fielded sponsored candidates in the Corporations elections, which will not help them. Rather this process has further exposed the divisive politics of BJP,” Mir added.
He blamed the BJP for destroying democratic institutions in the country cautioning the elected corporators about the politics of exploitation, that the BJP is involved in.
The JKPCC chief reiterated his appeal to all secular and right-thinking people to rise to the occasion to defeat BJP-RSS combine and their alliance partner to ensure that the democratic institutions in the state do not witness an erosion.
