Srinagar: Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Chairman, Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai on Saturday said termed the killing of a mentally unsound person in Shopian as a familiar disturbing trend, saying that the way forces did not even spare a mentally challenged persons reflects the mental and immoral bankruptcy of forces towards the Kashmiri people.
Sehrai in a statement issued here said that “the forces were taking advantage of draconian laws like the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), which give unbridled powers to them and instigate them to target unarmed civilians.”
Condemning the ‘cold blooded murder’ of mentally challenged person, Rayees Ahmed Wani of Kulgam in Shopian, Sehrai said, “The draconian laws like the AFSPA allows security forces to shoot at anybody merely on the basis of a suspicion. Because the government promises probes but nobody is ever held responsible.
“Even before this barbaric killing, the JKCCS had documented 15 alleged killings of mentally ill people in J&K between 2003 and 2011. The circumstances of most of these deaths were similar, according to the JKCCS’s records,” he said.
Meanwhile, TeH delegation led by Distt President Budgaam Tashooq Ahmed Banday accompanied by Abdul Majeed Rather and Mohammad Sultan Beigh visited the house of slain Mukthyar Ahmed Khan who was killed during Budgam encounter and expressed solidarity with the bereaved family.
While addressing the mourners, he said, the unprecedented sacrifices of Kashmiri people for Kashmir cause would not go waste.
He said that “India could not silence the voices of Kashmiris through use of brute force.”
The delegation said that the sacrifices of Kashmiris would bring fruit and Kashmir would be liberated from the clutches of India.
Moreover, another delegations led by Mohammad Rafiq Owaisi distt president sgr along with John Mohammad visited the house of TeH activist Mohammad Afzal Lal Bazar on the demise of his mother-in-law and expressed solidarity with the bereaved family.

Srinagar: The state Congress on Saturday said that Peoples Conference (PC) candidates for the post of Mayor and Deputy Mayor are backed by BJP-RSS, saying that this is the right time for the secular minded people to ensure defeat of these candidates in the upcoming elections in SMC.
Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) as per a statement issued to here described these elections as ‘a direct contest between Congress led secular front and BJP-RSS’ combine.
The spokesperson while commenting on the upcoming election to Mayor and Dy. Mayor scheduled to be held on 6th of this month in Municipal Corporation Srinagar stated that the elections is direct contest between Congress led secular front and BJP and RSS, which are hell bent upon to grab power in SMC Srinagar.
“Right time for the Corporators of Srinagar to ensure the defeat of BJP RSS, which are desperate enough to take control of the urban local body with the support of PC,” the statement said.
“The upcoming elections in SMC has also provided an opportunity to right thinking and secular elected members to come forward and forge a unity against the communal and fascist forces, for the fact defeating PC Candidates amounts to defeating BJP RSS,” the spokesman added and urged that time has come to defeat the divisive politics in the Country as well as in the State.
Meanwhile, JKPCC appointed Aijaz Rasool Bhat, Corporator elected from Ward 12 of SMC as Chief Whip for the upcoming elections in Srinagar Municipal Corporation, with immediate effect.
