Students belittle claims of facilities in exam centres
Srinagar: The class 10th and 12th examinations have once again bogged headlines and this time also for non availability of facilities inside the exam centres.
The students from various districts complained about non availability of drinking water and lighting facilities inside exam centers thus causing inconveniences to them.
“Our exams start in second meeting and finishes at 5pm in the afternoon. We face immense problems while writing our examination due to non-availability of lighting facilities in centres,” said Ishfaq, a student from Kupwara.
He said that the examination staff has also not kept drinking water available for students appearing in exams.
“There is no facility for us, even the seating arrangement in these schools is not of any standard due to which we are not able to write our exams comfortably,” he said.
The students also complained of improper timing for class 10th and 12th exams fixed by JK Board of School Education (BOSE) authorities.
“We reach our homes late which causes inconveniences for students because no transport facility is available in most of the rural areas after 5pm,” the student said.
The joint secretary examination in JKBOSE however, pleaded helplessness in changing the exam timings saying their schedule is so tight that the authorities cannot modify it.
“We are aware of the problems but we can’t help it because we don’t have any alternate timings available for these students,” he said.
He said they accommodate class 11th students in morning hours (first meeting) and class 10th and 12th are accommodated in afternoon (second meeting).
Meanwhile, Director School Education Kashmir (DSEK) G N Itoo who paid surprise visit to various exams centres of class 12th in Kulgam district expressed dissatisfaction over non availability of facilities in the exam centres.
“I was so disappointed after visiting exam centers because there are no proper lighting arrangements for students appearing in the exams,” he said.
He also admitted that students in other districts must be facing same inconveniences. “The department has taken cognizance of the issue and will be addressed for convenience of the students,” he said.
He said one exam centre in Kelar area was shifted due to public interference outside the exam centres.
“We won’t accept any misconduct in holding the annual exams,” he added.
