Sopore: Scores of residents from Green town bypass Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Monday staged a protest against the ‘failure’ of Public Health Engineering (PHE) department in providing drinking water to them.
The residents including men and women of Green town bypass of Sopore assembled at Sopore-Baramulla bypass road and blocked the traffic movement for several hours.
The protestors also raised slogans against the PHE department and demanded immediate redressal of their grievances.
Protesters said the department has failed to provide water supply to them from last one month. “We brought the matter into the notice of concerned authorities many times but nothing has been done in this regard,” they said.
Meanwhile, senior officer at PHE division Sopore admitted the water scarcity in the area and said department is working hard to provide water supply through Watlab water scheme to the area.
Officer said that higher authorities have approved this scheme for the area and work on this scheme will be started soon.
He said that currently water tanker supply has been started to the area so that they will not face any inconvenience.
