Kashmiri student attacked in Chandigarh
Police registers case, says action will follow
Srinagar: There seems to be no let-up in the attacks on Kashmiri students pursuing their studies in colleges and Universities located outside Jammu and Kashmir.
On Friday night, a final-year engineering student Mubashir Muttoo from Kashmir was attacked by some students with knives and iron rods at his rented accommodation in Chandigarh.
He was attacked by more than six students during late hours when he was sleeping at his flat along with his other roommates.
“A group of more than six persons barged inside, three were masked and all were carrying iron rods and knives with them,” Mubashir said.
He said the students started beating him and hit his legs and arms with iron rods as soon they entered inside his room.
Mubashir said he was immediately taken to a hospital, for treatment.
“Later, these students called me and said they had some misunderstanding and attacked me mistakenly,” he said. “But if it was misunderstanding then they should have given me a chance to speak to them before they attacked me.”
He said they have lodged a complaint at the local police station, but complained that the college authorities gave them a cold response when they registered their complaint.
“But we have been asked by local police here to visit again so that they will investigate into the matter,” Mubashir said.
The family members of Mubashir, have appealed the state government to ensure safety of the Kashmiri students pursuing studies outside J&K state.
“J&K police authorities should also take cognizance of this incident and take steps to safeguard the Kashmiri students outside,” the family members said.
The administrator of the college, Anoop said the incident happened in the evening at rented residence of the college student which is 10 kilometers away from the campus.
“We were not aware that it is going to happen. I was informed today morning about it by the students. They also identified some students who attacked Mubashir,” he said.
He said the students who have been identified by the complainants will be called on Monday and action will be taken accordingly.
“The college remains closed on Saturday so we will initiate action on Monday,” he said.
