Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman, Syed Ali Geelani on Tuesday was not allowed to move out of his residence, when he was scheduled to march towards Lal Chowk to express solidarity and lead a protest march against Kulgam ‘carnage’.
A spokesman in a statement issued here said that a large contingent of police was deployed in and around the residence of chairman and they locked the main gate from outside and didn’t allow anybody in or out.
Geelani strongly condemned this ‘arrogant and inhuman’ police action.
“In world’s largest and heavily militarized zone of Jammu and Kashmir, people are not even allowed to breathe freely. Their voice is choked and their human needs are curbed on the pretext of security,” Geelani said, adding that innocent lives are snatched by the barrel of gun and then people are not allowed to mourn these deaths.
Suggesting the rulers to get to the basic and ground realities, he cautioned them that “arbitrary and ruthless measures cannot lease your illegal and forceful occupation for too long, as history stands testimony to the fact that military might and unrealistic attitude can never succeed in subjugating a nation forever.”
He questioned them that “how long will you keep yourself in a deceitful denial mode as every time people in general convey their unambiguous message that come what may they will never accept and legitimize the unholy and unnatural bond of union with India. But most brazenly and shamefully, Indian rulers ignore these hard facts and continue to parrot the rhetoric of ‘integral part’.”
Meanwhile, Hurriyat Conference said that in Kashmir, people are barred from mourning and peaceful protest on the killing of their loved one’s through military might.
The spokesperson strongly condemned the fresh spree of arrests of pro-freedom leaders and activists has lashed by Indian occupation forces for deterring Geelani in the four walls for years and house arresting and detention other pro-resistance leaders including Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Mohammad Yasin Malik, Mohammad Ashraf Sehraie, Gh. Nabi Sumji, Mohammad Ashraf Laya, Mohammad Yaseen Aataie, Javid Ahmad Mir, Syed Imtiyaz Haider, Shakeel Ahmad Bhat and police raids on the residence of Mohammad Yousuf Naqash.
He further said that “although right to peaceful assembly, protest and speech has been acknowledged by international laws, but such kind of peaceful activity is a dreaded sin in Indian occupied territory and severely punished by the largest democracy of the world India, through the use of brute force.”
