Srinagar: Ahead of the third phase of the Urban Local Bodies (ULB) elections in the state authorities have stepped up security arrangements across the areas that are going to polls today.
Director General of Police Dilbagh Singh said that all arrangements have been put in place to conduct safe and peaceful elections.
The third phase of polls is being held in the backdrop of strike call given by separatist leaders in the polling areas.
The DGP said that all security and other necessary arrangements have been put in place. “The polls are part of the democratic process and it is for the betterment of the people,” the DGP said and added that deployment plan of the forces would be in accordance with the requirement in the poll bound areas.
Meanwhile, police said that it has intensified vehicle checking, frisking of pedestrians and area domination in the Srinagar city and other poll-bound urban pockets in Kashmir Valley to avert any untoward incident or any possible attack by the militants. Several check points have been set up to check private and public transport vehicles.
