SKUAST Jammu to organize Kissan Mela on Feb 16, 17

Jammu: The preparations are afoot at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology of Jammu for two-day Kisan Mela to be held on February 16 and 17, 2018 at Chatha Campus.

This year the theme of the Kisan Mela is “Technology Driven Agriculture for Doubling Farmers’ Income”, keeping in view the Prime Minister’s endeavour to double the farmers’ income by 2022.

Director Extension SKUAST Jammu, said “This mela is a storehouse of agricultural knowledge where farmers, rural women, livestock owners and youth get information about improved crop varieties, their production-protection technologies and improved livestock rearing practices”. He invited farmers to participate in the Mela to aquaint themselves with improved knowledge in the field of Agriculture.

Pertinently, the University has made arrangements for transportation of farmers from Jewel Chowk, Satwari and R.S.Pura.

The Kisan Mela will be inaugurated on 16th February at 11:00 by N. N. Vohra, Governor, J&K state and Chancellor SKUAST-J. Ghulam Nabi Lone Hanjura, Minister for Agriculture Production and Daljit Singh Chib, Vice Chairman, J&K State Advisory Board for Development of Kisans, will be the guests of honour.

The main attractions of the Mela will be agriculture and allied science exhibitions, livestock shows, different competitions and Kisan Goshthi. The input agencies will display their products such as seed, fertilizers, tractors, agriculture implements, chemicals, pesticides, animal feeds, bio-fertilizers, vermin-compost, mineral mixture and veterinary medicare supplies for knowledge and sale. Sale counter for seeds, flowers, fruits, vegetables and other planting materials will also be available during the mela.

Prizes will be given for outstanding exhibitions/ stalls and different categories of livestock. Besides, the Kisan Mela will also have an educational visit to Integrated farming system model, Technology Park.

Several institutes from outside the state, like Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IAR1) New Delhi, Punjab Agricultural University (PAU), Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) Ludhiana, CSK Himachal Pradesh Agricultural University Palampur, University of Horticulture and Forestry, Solari, Directorate of Cold Water Fisheries, Bhimtal Uttarakhand and other institutes will be displaying their technological innovations in the Kissan Mela.
