Pulwama: At a time when the Power Development Department (PDD) has tightened noose around the common consumers for power thefts, the government offices continue to use electricity without even paying their monthly bills.

Despite owing crores of rupees to PDD, the government offices and forces posts are unabatedly using heaters in their offices without any fear while the authorities have utterly failed to take any action against them.

As per the official records, several government departments and forces owe as much as Rs 1892 crore to PDD department on account of electricity bills by October 2017.

As per the information, government forces owe more than Rs 9 crore in its share of Rs 802 crore that departments in Kashmir division owe to the government.

Moreover, PDD owes Rs 7.76 crore to its own department in Jammu only.

Despite owing crores to PDD, the authorities have miserably failed to get a single penny from them.

PDD official working in PDD division Awantipora- Pulwama said that many political workers putting up in government quarters owe lakhs to the department. However, he said that despite repeated reminders, they are least bothering to clear the pending bills.

He added that it seems that rules set by the authorities are only meant for the common consumers but PDD officials don’t dare to take any action against security forces and political workers.

“Despite owing crores to the department, they are being provided with 24×7 power supply and are using all heating appliances while as the common consumers who clear their bills on time are being deprived of the electricity, which is sheer injustice,” he said.
