Police registers case against six for rumour-mongering in Kangan

As the incidents of violence following braid chopping go unabated, Police on Saturday while taking action registered cases against six persons for spreading false rumours over braid chopping and disturbing law and order in Kangan area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.

Earlier, a mentally unsound man was thrashed by a crowd after accusing him of being a braid chopper at Main market Kangan.

Reports said that a person moving “suspiciously” with a hand bag was mistaken as a braid chopper and a crowd, mostly the passers-by, caught hold of him and thrashed him.

However, police reached at the spot and took the person into custody.

As per the initial investigation the victim who was thrashed is mentally unstable, a police official confirmed. He said that they are investigating the matter.

Pertinently, a 70-year-old man was killed by a vigilante mob yesterday after he was mistaken as braid chopper in Anantnag district of South Kashmir.

The deceased identified as Abdul Salam Wani was hit by a brick in Danter village of Islamabad district last night after people mistook him as a braid chopper. He was shifted to district hospital Anantnag where from he was referred to Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences at Soura in a critical condition. He succumbed to injuries at SKIMS at Soura.
