In a first, JK bags Annual National Award under MGNREGA

For the first time in the history of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) in the state, the Department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Jammu and Kashmir bagged the first National Award for effective initiatives under Geo-Tagging of MGNREGA assets.

The Award ceremony in this regard was held on Monday in Plenary Hall, Vigyan Bhavan, New Delhi in which participants from across the country represented their respective states. The Award was received by Commissioner Secretary, RDD Nirmal Sharma.

The Award ceremony was chaired by union Minister for Rural Development, Panchayati Raj, Drinking Water & Sanitation, Narendra Singh Tomar, and Union Minister of State RDD Ram Kripal Yadav, Union Secretary Amarjeet Sinha and other senior officers of the Department.

The State has been chosen for the exemplary performances in Geo-tagging of the assets under MGNREGA across J&K.  The state also received Award for effective implementation of Mahatma Gandhi NREGA in District Leh, JK.

The team from the State of Jammu & Kashmir was headed by Nirmal Sharma, Commissioner Secretary, RDD & Panchayati Raj while Director, RDD Jammu RK Bhat and other senior officers of the Department participated in the event. Additionally, District Leh was also awarded for effective implementation of MGNREGA for 2016-17.
