Residents of Saidpora Payeen village of south Kashmir’s Shopian district held protest demonstration and blocked main road on Tuesday against alleged highhandedness of army and paramilitary forces.

The residents alleged that forces vandalised property and thrashed locals in the village on Monday evening.

“No one was out as people were heading towards Masjids at the time of Iftari, forces entered into the village and started damaging the parked vehicles and throwing stones on the roofs of the houses”,  a resident said.

Announcements regarding the forces vandalism were made on Masjid loud speakers.

“Somebody rushed into the mosque and informed that forces have come up in the village and have started damaging the property,” a local resident said.

The sources said that, before villagers could assemble to stop the forces, they burnt a bike, damaged vehicles and thrashed few locals, he added.

While talking with Kashmir Vision, locals demanded action against the forces involved.

When contacted a top police official he told that he does not have information about the incident.

“We will look into the matter,” he said.
