NC slams Govt over `terrorism’, pitches for dialogue
National Conference Saturday slammed the government for what it termed resorting to ‘state terrorism’ with former Minister and senior leader, Mohammad Shafi Uri, pitching for dialogue on Kashmir.
“Home Minister of India says that solution to Kashmir is being found out,” Uri said. “But they have closed the doors of talks which is essence of the democracy. If you are not talking then how are you going ahead,” he said.
Former Minister took pot shots at New Delhi for using the strong arm tactics. He told the Chief Minister that the government should stop resorting to “state terrorism and exhibit patience.’’ “From Jagmohan onwards, rulers came here saying that they had stopped Kashmir from going astray,” Uri said. “Nothing is going anywhere.”
NC veteran said that Kashmir has a resistance movement which cannot be crushed by the power. He said the government must “talk to the people who also have a different point of view.’’ “Kashmir is on the edge,’’ said Uri, adding that “If you add to the fire, it will devour all of us.”
NC leader asked the government t0 show reconciliatory approach, emphasizing that there was no harm in hating the cordon and search operation during the month of Ramadan. He asked the Chief Minister to be responsive to the situation and prevent the escalation of a serious crisis in Kashmir. He said the people are being killed like ants and hospitals are full with injured.
Speaking in the Assembly, Congress leader G M Saroori said the PDP-BJP government has completely failed because it has forgotten what it stood for.”You got Nagpur mission and Bajrang Dal mission here,” Saroori said. “Now your MLAs are asking people not to trade with Kashmiris.”
He said Kashmiri Muslims are secular but BJP has created a wedge between the communities.
Attacking the ruling PDP right left and centre, Ghulam Mohammad Saroori lamented that “there is nothing in the hands of the Chief Minister”. He said that the entire powers being exercised in J&K are that of a General who is heading Northern Command.
“There are speeches made to make news but not to express genuine concern . We in Kashmir have been fragmented and we talk in different voice and there is a need to have a common agenda on basics across political divide,’’ said CPIM leader, M Y Tarigami.
