The residents of Kullan Gund in Ganderbal district held anti-PDD protests on Friday to demand the repair of a transformer damaged week ago.

The protestors including women and children, blocked busy Srinagar- Leh highway amid anti-PDD and anti-administration slogans, thereby disrupting traffic movement for hours.

“Week ago, transformer of our village got damaged and the department failed to re-install it even as we face lot of inconvenience due to unavailability of electricity in this holy month of Ramadan ,” the protestors said.

The protesters said that the transformer installed in their locality often encounters technical snags because it fails to bear the load.

“Our repeated plea of installing a high capacity Transformer before concerned authorities is being ignored repeatedly, therefore we decided today to come on roads, so that our voices are heard,” they said.

Meanwhile, hundreds of vehicles including tourist vehicles remained stranded for hours causing immense inconvenience to the commuters.

Later SHO, Police Station Gund, Khursheed Ahmad along with AEE PDD Kangan rushed to the spot and pacified protesters by assuring them that their demands will be met.

Executive Engineer PDD Ganderbal, Javaid Ahmad said that the transformer will be installed within a day or two.

“The transformer is already being repaired at  workshop and will be re-installed within a day or two , he added.
