Syed Ali Geelani, who continues to be under house arrest, was again, on Friday, barred from offering religious obligation. The police authorities also placed Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Jammu Kashmir (THJK) general secretaries Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai and Ayaz Akbar under house arrest.

The spokesman said that this move of the police was unjustified and all these measures held no ethical ground. He said, “It is ridiculous. Administration follows no ethics and it has become a routine practice for the authorities to put the leadership under house arrest.”

The spokesman said that Syed Ali Geelani, who continues to be under house detention for past several years, was again stopped from offering Friday prayers by the police.

“The house arrest is taking a heavy toll on his health. Resistance leaders are barred from performing religious obligations which is tantamount to interference in religious matters.”

Meanwhile, a statewide protest was held after the Friday prayers against the NIA raids and the implementation of GST. Leaders and activists condemned the ransacking of properties during night raids in Shopian and Kulgam areas and demanded the immediate release of all political prisoners.
