DGP says Jaish carried out grenade attacks as police sounds alert
Director General of Police Dr SP Vaid today said Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) militants outfit was involved in the series of militants attacks on Tuesday even as the police have sounded an alert after the militant incidents
Vaid ruled out the role of any other militant outfit in the attack even as the HM has claimed the responsibility for the attack. “As per our intelligence inputs Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) militant outfit was involved in these attacks. Though Hizbul Mujahedeen (HM) has claimed responsibility, we are sure it was JeM,” said the DGP.
He said the security personnel injured in the attacks are stable. The Jaish has not been much active on militancy front in the state and was mainly responsible for the fidayeen attacks along the LoC.
The militants have carried out a series of attacks in the valley last night in which 15 security personnel of CRPF, state Police and army were wounded. The gunmen also looted four automatic weapons from police guards of a retired judge. Two police personnel who were guarding the house of a retired judge in Anchidora area of Anantnag were also injured and militants decamped with four weapons last night.
The DGP said the militants were carrying out such attacks during the holy month in previous years also and there is nothing new. “But unfortunately militants are using this month for violence,” he said.
About the surge in militant activities in south Kashmir, Vaid said it is because majority of militants operating there are locals while it is the opposite in north Kashmir where foreign militants are active. The police chief said there would be unprecedented security arrangements for the annual pilgrimage to holy Amarnath cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas, commencing from June 29. “There will be no problem to pilgrims undertaking the yatra this year,” he announced.
Security forces remain on high alert after the series of militant attack ,but the situation across the Valley remained normal across and no untoward incident was reported from anywhere. The CRPF Director General Rajiv Rai Bhatnagar has said that the CRPF camps in Jammu and Kashmir have been put on a state of high alert.
According to Bhatnagar, the series of attacks that have been rocking the Valley for the past few days is being carried out with a motive of “launching grenades and run away”. “The morale of our contingent is very high and they are trying to maintain law and order with their professional competence,” he said.
Meanwhile, Al-Umar Mujahidden Wednesday claimed the responsibility of the grenade attacks that took place in few places in the valley. In a statement Al-Umar chief Mushtaq Ahmad Zargar said the grenade attacks in Tral, Pulwama, Awantipora and Saraf Kadal were carried out by the outfit. “The attacks were jointly carried out with Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM). These attacks would continue in future,” he said. He said that the Kashmiri Pandits who are currently living in the Valley are “our brothers while the rest of those who have left the valley won’t be allowed to live here again.’’
