Srinagar/Sopore: Two young artists from north Kashmir’s Sopore town will be making their debut as music directors in an upcoming Bollywood movie ‘Sarfira’ under the banner of ‘Limraa Entertainment’.

Nayeem Ashraf and Shabir Ahmad, the duo who hails from Sopore town of north Kashmir have been working in tinsel town since 2009.

“We were working as assistant directors with Jatin Pandith of Jatin-Lalit fame and worked on a film called ‘P se PM Tak’. After that we assisted music director Ismael Darbar in ‘Kaanchi’ in 2014,” Nayeem told ‘Kashmir Vision’.

After 2014, the duo worked in some smaller projects and finally got a big break when noted  director Mukesh Prajapati offered them his film ‘Sarfira’.

Interestingly, the young composers were so obsessed with music that back in 2003, Nayeeem along with his friend Shabir and his brother Firdous started their musical band in Sopore town under the name of ‘Sangam Musical Band’.

While the Nayeem-Shabir duo later shifted to Mumbai and started their career as music composers for various Bollywood projects, Firdous stayed back and now runs two studios in Srinagar. He helps the duo from here whenever they need any guidance.

Shabir, who has assisted Jatin-Lalit in Amir Khan starrer Fanaa in 2006 was the lead guitarist for the Sangam band, says Firdous.

The alumni of ‘Neitherfields’ school in Sopore and ‘Fine Art College in Srinagar’, Nayeem was inspired by his friend Shabir who was already in Mumbai assisting various musicians in Bollywood.

“It took me two years to understand the basics of the industry in Mumbai and eventually got few small breaks before getting a full movie,” Nayeem said.

The psycho-thriller movie will have three songs and all the songs will be composed by the Shabir-Nayeem duo.

Notably, Nayeem and Shabir have already gained a good faith among a section of music lovers in Kashmir after they launched their two albums, Asar and Sarhad.

On December 6 the film had its Mahurat. The function was inaugurated by the producer of the movie Imran Ahmad along with other Bollywood celebrities inside ‘Samrat Hall’ in Andheri West in Mumbai.
