Restrictions in Srinagar, Anantnag today
Srinagar: In the backdrop of the ‘Public jalsa’ call given by the Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) on December 15, the district administration Srinagar and Anantnag on Thursday decided to impose restrictions in the respective districts.
Officials in the district administration Srinagar said that the restrictions under section 144 CrpC will be imposed in Srinagar areas falling under the jurisdiction of six Police Stations including the Rainwari, Nowhatta, Khanyar, Maharaj Gunj, Safa Kadal, Maisuma, and Kral Khud.
They said that the restrictions will be imposed in view of the JRL’s call as precautionary measure.
The officials said that the curbs will be placed to thwart any possible protest called by the pro-freedom leaders.
Meanwhile, in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district police have also decided to impose restrictions in view of the pro-freedom leadership’s jalsa call.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Anantnag, Altaf Khan was quoted by the local news agency, saying that the restrictions will be imposed across the district to thwart any possible protest.
He informed that the restrictions will be imposed as a precautionary measure.
Meanwhile, in view of the protest call, the authorities have placed scores of pro-freedom activists under detention.
The pro-freedom activists including Syed Imtiyaz Haider, M Yaseen Attai and M Yousuf Bhat were detained by the police on Thursday to thwart their participation in the public jalsa, scheduled to be held on Friday at Anantnag.
However, the senior pro-freedom leaders including Geelani and Mirwaiz continued to remain under house detention while the Muhammad Yasin Malik continued to remain under detention at Srinagar’s central jail from last several days.
Earlier, the JRL comprising of Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umer Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik had appealed people to participate in the public jalsa on Dec 15.
They had also asked the government of India (GoI) and the state government to allow the resistance leadership to hold public jalsa if they believe in democracy.
