Recruitment of 10+2 contractual teachers: Education Department fails to finalize list
Srinagar: Despite the commencement of schools post winter vacations a month ago, the school education department is yet to finalize the selection process for recruitment of contractual 10 2 lecturers in government higher secondary schools.
The delay on the part of the government has taken a toll on academics in schools having dearth of permanent faculty of lecturers.
It may be recalled that the entrance test of eligible aspirants for 10 2 lecturers was held on March 02 by the directorate of school education (DSEK). However, the authorities have failed to issue selection list despite the passage of around three weeks now.
“The delay in recruitment of contractual 10 2 lecturers has taken a toll on the academics of students as most of the higher secondary schools are without permanent lecturer faculty,” an official said, wishing anonymity.
Pertinently, all the Higher Secondary Schools (HSS) reopened on February 23 but the students are facing dearth of teachers in almost all streams.
“It speaks about non-seriousness of government to provide adequate faculty in schools and completion of syllabus on time,” the official said.
The sources said most of the higher secondary schools particularly in rural districts have less permanent faculty members. “This fact leads to having contractual teachers a requisite,” said the official.
“In some higher secondary schools there is not even a single permanent lecturer and students find no purpose to attend the schools as the department is yet to finalize the selection process of contractual staff and academic arrangements,” the official said.
As per the official figures over 1200 posts of 10 2 lecturers are vacant in school education department for Kashmir division in various disciplines under direct recruitment and promotion quota.
To overcome the dearth of staff in higher secondary schools, the department recruits contractual and academic arrangement for 10 2 classes for one academic session.
“But the students have not attended any classes after schools reopened after two month long winter vacations as they do not have any teacher to teach,” an official said.
Director school education Kashmir G N Itoo said the selection list will be announced on Saturday.
“I convened a meeting with the CEO’s and other officials to take review of the requirement in schools. The process is in its final stage and will be completed within this week only,” he said.
Itoo said the government has this year decided to provide honorarium at the rate of Rs 10000 per contractual lecturer in plan areas while as those who will be posted in far off areas will be given Rs15000 per month.
“Earlier it was only Rs 7000 across the board but now the matter has been taken up with finance department and we are hopeful that the contractual staff will be given the revised amount,” he added.
