Srinagar: Government would reasonable consider the request from Kashmir Inc to keep the operation of SRO-472 in abeyance. The SRO seeks the closure of shops and establishments on various days of the week across Kashmir Valley.

Notably, Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) had approached the state’s Finance Minister Haseeb Drabu about keeping the operation of SRO-472 in abeyance for the time being.

“Dr Drabu assured the Kashmir Chamber that their viewpoint would be given a positive and appropriate response by the State Government and all stakeholders would be taken on board while formulating any policy matter,” a statement issued by the KCCI said here.

The trade body quoting the Finance Minister after they had a meeting with him in Jammu said that he assured the members that the government would reasonable consider the request from Kashmir Inc to keep the operation of SRO-472 in abeyance.

Pertinently, after Labour and Employment Department issued a notification, Kashmir’s trade fraternity reacted strongly and said they will launch an agitation in case the order is not revoked.

Chairman, Kashmir Economic Alliance, Muhammad Yaseen Khan on Sunday said the government’s decision of market closure calendar for different days for Srinagar is an “anti-trade announcement” .

Khan, who also heads Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers Federation, said the “autocratic diktat” was unacceptable to the trader community.

“We are living in the conflict-zone in a situation where markets especially those in the central business district of Lal Chowk and old city are often shut due to government restrictions or hartals. How can traders of such area where market remains shut for such reasons go for another day off at the whims and fancies of  the government,” Khan said.

KCCI, Sr Vice President, Nasir Hamid Khan had an urgent meeting with the Minister of Finance, Labour & Employment in Jammu today, the KCCI said.
