CS reviews progress on IIM Jammu, out-campus Kashmir

Jammu: Chief Secretary, B B Vyas Friday chaired a meeting here to review the progress on the setting up of the permanent campus of Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Jammu at Jagti Nagrota and IIM out campus in Kashmir.

Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Deputy Commissioner, Jammu, Director Colleges, Jammu, Additional Commissioner in the office of Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, DFO, Jammu, Executive Engineer, PW(R&B) Jammu and other senior officers attended the meeting. Divisional Commissioner Kashmir participated in the meeting via video conferencing.

It was informed that the joint inspection and demarcation of the site for establishment of IIM at village Jagati, Nagrota measuring 1600 Kanals has been completed and the construction work can be started immediately by the IIM team.

Chief Secretary stressed on immediately starting the work on the construction of boundary wall at the site besides initiating the process of starting the work on the permanent campus.

Regarding establishment of IIM Out campus Kashmir, it was informed that the feasibility of the land identified at Narkara, Budgam is being ascertained in view of its marshy nature. If the site is not found feasible then suitable land for the purpose elsewhere will be looked into. Chief Secretary asked Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir to finalise the site at the earliest.

Meanwhile, efforts are on to start an incubation centre for IIM and a private building is being identified for the purpose at Srinagar.

Presently, IIM Jammu is functioning in old campus of the University of Jammu at Canal Road, Jammu. The Academic session of IIM Jammu started from November, 2016 with 54 students and second batch from August, 2017 with 67 students.
