Braid chopping: Shutdown, protests across Kashmir continue
Srinagar: A complete shutdown was observed in Maisuma area and parts of Lal Chowk in Srinagar city following a braid chopping incident in the area yesterday. All the business establishments remained closed and traffic was also not plying through the area.
Heavy clashes were reported yesterday in the area after a braid of a woman was chopped off. Massive tear gas shelling was reported near the vicinity of Budshah Chowk on Monday.
Meanwhile, in South Kashmir, a complete shutdown was observed in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Tuesday against the government’s failure to nab the miscreants.
Sources said that youth pelted stones in the morning to force a shutdown in the town.
Yesterday two incidents of braid chopping incidents were reported from Pulwama district, one from Dangerpora area of Pulwama town and other from Nikas village of the district.
“When stone pelters and other criminals are nabbed in no time, why they haven’t arrested anyone involved in braid chopping incidents despite the fact that over 100 braid chopping incidents have been reported in the valley,” a local said.
All shops and business establishments remain are closed in the area while traffic was off the roads.
Meanwhile, Traders Federation and Employees Joint Action Committee (EJAC) in Bandipora took out a protest rally against the growing incidents of braid chopping across the Valley.
Carrying placards, the protestors marched from Nowpora to Gulshan Chowk Bandipora.
They said that the government has failed to stop the growing incidents of braid chopping across the Valley.
